Extended Summary:
We are thrilled to welcome Heather Lang to *Creative Mamas Unplugged*! Heather is a multifaceted artist with over 24 years of professional experience across Broadway, film, TV, opera, and dance. As a dancer, choreographer, and director, Heather’s diverse creative career has been a powerful force in the arts, and she continues to develop projects that celebrate feminine power and joy.
In this episode, Heather shares her transformative journey. From her early struggles with people-pleasing tendencies to discovering the importance of boundaries, she reflects on how prioritizing family has shaped her career and personal life. Heather opens up about the challenges and rewards of dancing while pregnant, the profound shifts that motherhood brings, and her passion for advocating for women in the arts.
Heather’s artistic projects are equally inspiring. Her debut film, *Simulation*, created with her childhood best friend, Purdie Baumann, received accolades from festivals worldwide, including a Jury’s Choice Award at the Thomas Edison Film Festival and Best Choreography at the Canadian International Fashion Film Festival. She’s also created and performed works that reclaim feminine power, exploring themes of rebirth, loss, and joy through intricate choreography, set design, and live music.
Currently, Heather is developing a NYC dance show that builds on *Simulation*, reclaiming stories and celebrating joy in the body through elaborate costuming, projection design, and live music. Upcoming projects include *Queens of Heart*, debuting in 2025, and *Hypervigilent Mutation*, exploring women’s perspectives on identity and transformation.
Heather’s dedication to education and mentorship shines as she teaches and speaks at institutions like UT Austin, Chicago College of Performing Arts, and NYU Tisch School of the Arts. As a Level 1 Gyrotonic Method Certified instructor, she continues to expand her creative toolkit.
